Upgrading Old Systems For More Comfort

Before the Audit:

The house had old heating and cooling systems that were not as effective as the homeowner would like. The homeowner was ready to invest in new systems.

The retrofit:

They replaced their old gas furnace with a heat pump, which is more efficient. They were able to install it in the attic, freeing up a closet for other uses. They also added better insulation, a new air conditioning unit, and new ducts.

After the retrofit:

"One of the first things we noticed is how quiet the system is. It used to be that the furnace would go on and it would practically rattle the roof but the new system is very quiet. In fact you hardly even notice it's on, even when it's running."

In addition to reducing noise, the homeowner's gas bill went down since electricity use decreased.
